Best Nightlife -(Dance Clubs)
Club 97
(Nightlife - Dance Clubs)
9 Lan Kwai FongHong Kong 852 2186 1897
Description:
CENTRAL. More than two decades in business is proof positive that Club 97 does everything just right. Sleek and modern, the space is ideal for lounging, although the hip clientele is just as likely to spend time on the dance floor. The music varies from night to night Wednesday is salsa night, Sunday is devoted to reggae, and other nights range from hip-hop to old school R&B. Drinks of choice include champagne and complex, multi-ingredient cocktails.
Drop
(Nightlife - Dance Clubs)
39-43 Hollywood RdHong Kong 852 2543 8856
Description:
CENTRAL. Hong Kong has a few clubs that are popular with a celebrity crowd, and this is one of them. Despite having been around for a few years, Drop still manages to reel 'em in. The entrance is on Cochrane Street, and once you're past the rather selective doorman you'll find a stylish modern space with lots of texture and warm lighting, punctuated with splashes of red. Fruity cocktails are the quaff of choice here, although the classic martini does have its fair share of takers. Plan to arrive before 11pm after that you need to be a film star (or a member) to get in.
Propaganda
(Nightlife - Dance Clubs)
1 Hollywood RdHong Kong 852 2868 1316
Description:
CENTRAL. Propaganda may be a bit hard to find the entrance is actually on Ezra Lane, a narrow little alley off Hollywood Road. But if you're looking to dance into the wee hours, this is the place to do it. An institution on the Hong Kong nightlife scene for years, the club attracts a mixed clientele of gay and straight, locals, ex-pats and tourists. Weekends are especially packed, of course, but the go-go boys make the crowds worth braving. When it's time for a breather, the cozy candlelit bar area is perfect.
Yumla
(Nightlife - Dance Clubs)
79 Wyndham StHong Kong 852 2147 2382
Description:
CENTRAL. Yumla has the enviable reputation of being the most unpretentious club in town. Resident DJs and international acts offer up a great mix that usually includes a lot of indie and underground electronica. One of the cooler things about this place though is the artwork. Every few months the façade is treated to a new theme local artists completely repaint the exterior, giving the drab basement wall a colorful, distinctive and youthful look that perfectly captures the spirit of the club itself.
dragon i
(Nightlife - Dance Clubs)
60 Wyndham StHong Kong 852 3110 1222
Description:
CENTRAL. dragon i is a see-and-be-seen sort of place, and the velvet rope is particularly long on weekends unless you happen to be unnaturally beautiful or rich enough to bribe the doormen. However, it is without a doubt one of the most fashionable clubs in town, they tend to book the best DJ talent, and their food (Japanese and Chinese) and cocktails are quite wonderful. All this style and general fabulousness attracts a good number of models and celebrities, of course, making it nearly impossible for mere mortals to get in the door. But, if you have the clothes and the looks, give it a shot. You won't be disappointed!
